What’s new in version 3.7

  • Fixed: Drag-and-drop any kind of file was possible. This has been corrected.

Note: (1) It's important to read the dev's website to understand what HandbrakePM is, as well as its dependent software. (2) It's installer will not open without fiddlilng it to "Open Anyway" in System Settings/Privacy & Security/Security/ . Hopefully, you're used to that routine. (3) So where does one get HandBrakeCLI? CLI = Character Line Interface, which means working with macOS Terminal. Hopefully you're used to that as well! You can install HandBrakeCLI via either Homebrew (which you already installed) or MacPorts (the alternative to Homebrew). (3a) The Homebrew command: <brew install handbrake>. (3b) The MacPorts command: <sudo port install HandBrakeCLI>. (4) Use this page to get going with CLI commands. The most useful introduction command is: <handbrakecli --help> (5) Once both HandbrakeCLI and HandBrakePM are installed, you can run HandBreakPM as a GUI, as per the dev's instructions. - -> Now go take a break from this CLI crud. 😴

If all you want to do is convert some AVIs for the iPad, as I often do, it couldn't be simpler: Select a format from the presets (e.g. iPad, iPod, iPhone, AppleTV, Android, Tablet), choose the output folder, drag the movie files into its window and click the "Process" button. I had tried other converter tools before, but they usually overwhelm me with too many options I do not care about for my needs. The only other tool I know that is as easy as this is Elgato's turbo.h264 HD.

by its description, handbrakepm can only use the cli's default presets. now, i have not used any of them but there's also handbrake batch: http://www.osomac.com/apps/osx/handbrake-batch/

Whatever preset I select it does not change the output size. If I load a 1280 x720 movie and select the "iPhone Legacy" I should not get a movie that is still 1280 x720.
